One killed, 30 injured in separate accidents

One person was killed while 30 others injured in four accidents here on Friday.


A Tempo traveler carrying nearly 30 persons, including 26 school children, went off road at Pattijubbal in Kumarsain tehsil of Shimla, in which a 10-year-girl Mahima died on the spot while 21 others injured of which seven were shifted to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC).

A police official said a case of negligent driving had been registered against driver Banarsi Das. The accident had raised serious questions about people's safety in rural areas as the vehicle was carrying 30 people which was double its capacity, he said.

He said a case under various sections of the Indian penal code (IPC) had been registered and investigation was on.

In a separate incident, nearly six students received burn injuries in the mid-day meal kitchen at Kochdi High School at Jhakri, around 112 km from here. Police said a case was registered and investigation to ascertain the reason was on.

Meanwhile, a vehicle coming from New Shimla hit two school girls at Khalini. Both girls were admitted to IGMC and case of negligent driving was registered against the driver.

In another incident, a school bus skidded off road near Chota Shimla in which driver received minor injuries.
