Days after HT highlighted how majority of ATMs in the city lacked guards, a meeting was held to discuss the security of banks and ATMs at the Mini Secretariat where the Panchkula police asked 28 officials of various banks operating in the city to deploy guards at ATMs here on Monday.
The meeting was held under assistant commissioner of police (ACP, HQ), Krishan Hooda. All the participating bank officials were informed about enforcement of orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc) issued by deputy commissioner of police, Panchkula, with regard to mandatory requirement of installation of CCTV cameras at all banks and ATMs. They were directed to ensure installation of CCTV cameras within ten days, failing which closure of ATMs would be strictly enforced. A case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) could also be registered.

On October 29, an attempt was made to loot the ATM of ICICI bank at Mansa Devi Complex in Panchkula. However, the bid was foiled as thieves failed to extract the machine from the ground and fled the spot: Remains unsolved
