Panchayat byelections schedule announced

Haryana Election Commission has released schedule for the panchayat by-elections to fill 214 posts of panch, 25 of sarpanch, nine of panchayat samiti member, and two of zila parishad representative in the state that fell vacant because of various reasons.

State election commissioner Dharam Vir said in a press release issued here on Monday that nominations could be filed from December 16 to 17 (10 am to 4pm) and information submitted to the returning officer (panchayat) concerned in the prescribed format before 10am on December 18.

The scrutiny of papers would be from 10am to 4pm on December 18, and candidature could be withdrawn by up to 4pm on December 20. The work of preparing candidates' lists and allotting symbols will be completed after the withdrawal of candidature on December 20.

Voting and counting

Polling, if required, will be conducted from 8am to 4pm on December 29, and the votes will be counted at the polling stations immediately afterwards. For the panchayat samiti and zila parishad seats, the counting will begin at 9am on December 30.
