Panchayat polls: Counting underway amid tight security

The counting of votes for the zila parishad and block samiti polls was underway amid close monitoring and tight security in the state.


The counting started at 8am this morning and the results are expected to be out by today evening.

According to the initial trends, the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal was leading at majority of the places including Patiala and Gurdaspur, where as information was still awaited from other centers at the time of filing the report.

The police have made elaborate security arrangements for the counting day. Apart from candidates, only one person per table will be allowed to enter the counting premises as the polling agents.

Chandigarh: SAD leading
Gurdaspur: SAD wins two seats in Kahnuwan block samiti
Sangrur: SAD wins three seats in block samiti
Tarn Taran: SAD leading
