Patil donates Rs. 1 lakh for translating Sikh's holy book in kannada

Punjab governor and UT administrator Shivraj V Patil on Friday released book "Vachanna" translated by Loveen Kaur and edited by professor Pandit Rao Dharennavar of Post Graduate Government College here.


Appreciating the initiative of translating holy books of Kannada in Punjabi and other languages, Patil gave Rs. 1 lakh from his discretionary funds to prof Rao to translate Guru Granth Sahib in Kannada language also.

He said exchanging teachings of Gurus in different languages would help in creating healthy and peaceful society. He said that the holy book contains Bani of 173 saints of 12th Century from Karnataka and total 2500 selected Vachans translated from Kannada to Punjabi.

Speaking on life and teaching of Sri Basaveshwaro, Patil said the teachings and message of Sri Basaveshwaro are relevant in today's complex and materialistic world.

Patil also honoured Bengaluru-based Basava Samithi president Arvind Jatti on the occasion.

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included principal secretary to governor MP Singh and former MLA Jagral Singh Gill.

Education dept to hire consellors to tackle violence

Keeping in view the increase in violence at government schools in the city of late, the UT education department has started the process to hire 87 counsellors to provide help to students. ile 40 counsellors will be hired for senior secondary schools, the rest will be for high schools.
