Questioning the motive of RTI activists in taking up different issues, UT administrator Shivraj Patil has asked the officials to ascertain their motives, alleged city-based RTI activist RK Garg, who appeared before Patil in a public hearing session held on Monday.
Garg, who approached the administrator with different issues related to the general public, alleged that the officer present was told to look into the real cause of RTI activists in asking and raising so many issues.
“His attitude was adamant when I wanted to emphasise the public issues and he asked me not to argue with him,” rued Garg.
Garg maintained that he was asked to approach court against the administration when he apprised Patil about the non-compliance of directions of Punjab and Haryana high court about setting up of permanent mechanism for aided and unaided schools on fee matters.
Garg claimed that on the issue of sensitising officers upon adverse remarks by the Central Information Commission (CIC), the administrator refused to issue any speaking order to mend the working of officers.
“After waiting for three months, I was called to appear in the session to raise issues related to general public. I am surprised by his (Patil) way of dealing with the applicants, particularly who raise the public issues,” said Garg.
Interestingly, in the official press release of the public hearing session name of Garg was not mentioned among the 14 residents who appeared before Patil.
UT names victim in press note
In a glaring mistake, the UT administration in its official press note issued on Monday named the victim who was sexually harassed by her senior Gurcharan Singh at the regional employment exchange, Panjab University. The public relations office, however, later amended its mistake by issuing a revised press note after removing the details of the victim.
Meanwhile, acting on the complaint of the victim, Patil directed UT finance secretary VK Singh to take initiate probe against Gurcharan and issued orders for his suspension.
The husband of the victim, who appeared before the administrator, stated that his wife was sexually harassed by Gurcharan and the allegation was found true by the sexual harassment committee. The accused was arrested by the police, but was later released on bail.
