The ex-servicemen's cell of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) on Sunday asked Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Arun Jaitley to apologise for certain remarks against soldiers he is reported to have made during his Lok Sabha campaign for the Amritsar seat.

It accused him of making the derogatory comments at Ajnala on Saturday while criticising his Congress opponent, Captain Amarinder Singh, a former soldier. PCC ex-servicemen's cell convener Laly Jawandha said the remarks had hurt all soldiers and the BJP candidate had also tried to mislead the ex-servicemen about the "one rank, one pension" policy announced by the Centre.

"The notification was issued and a letter has gone to the central defence accounts in this regard," he said.
