People are unhappy with your absence from the constituency? How do you justify your absence?
Gulshan:
I have not been absent from my constituency. All these years, I was shuttling between Delhi and Faridkot. As a member of Parliament and representative of the people of my area, it was my duty to attend Lok Sabha sessions and I did that with diligence. But it is not possible to make it to every function, bhog or celebration as my constituency is spread across Faridkot, Bathinda and Moga districts. People get offended when I’m not able to attend functions and term it as my absence from the constituency.

What were your achievements during this five-year term?
With my concerted efforts, I ensured that the constituency had better rail connectivity with the national capital. The Ferozepur-Delhi train was the outcome of my follow-up. Jammu Tawi express train was extended from Ferozepur to Bathinda. In addition, 12 new halts of express trains were introduced in Faridkot constituency during my tenure.

Are you ready for another contest and are you confident of making it to the Lok Sabha yet again?
I am all set to contest the elections and I am sure that people will vote in my favour. My opponent from the Congress (in case he gets the ticket) does not stand a chance as he is an outsider and does not even have a base in this constituency. On the other hand, people appreciate my honesty and thoroughness in execution of works, hence they have already accepted me as their candidate.

One thing you would like to change.
Education is one sector where a lot needs to be done. Being an educationist, I feel it’s the key to development. My next step would be to promote education and health at primary and secondary levels.

Did you at any point of time feel that your male counterparts were superior to you?
No, I have never felt that my male counterparts are superior. On the contrary, being a woman, I always felt empowered. The credit goes to the upbringing by my father and unequivocal support from my husband, which gives me immense strength even during the toughest moments.
