The PGIMER was converted into a virtual fortress soon after Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah, who was injured in an attack by a fellow prisoner in a Jammu jail, reached the institute on Friday evening.

Sanaullah was flown to Chandigarh, from where he was rushed to PGIMER in an ambulance. Soon, a heavy police force was deployed on the hospital campus. At least ten police vehicles were parked near the Nehru Hospital and New OPD block.

The UT SSP, Naunihal Singh, himself monitored the security arrangements.

The police also rounded up some slogan-shouting activists of Shiv Sena outside the hospital.

Only truth can really set Indians free

Today the ideas of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi seem to be appreciated more abroad than in his own country that considers him to be the “father of the nation”. However, its rulers have abandoned his principles and pay lip service to him by placing wreaths on his memorial in Delhi every year on October 2. They do little to make the youth aware of his message of nonviolence and peaceful coexistence.Writes Amarjit Singh Hayer
