The Punjab police informed the Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday that during the investigation, it had found evidence against Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the lead pair of his new movie 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela', Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, which warranted their arrest.
The submission were made during the resumed hearing of a petition filed by the director and actors, seeking quashing of the FIR registered against them in Jalandhar, alleging that the contents of the film were highly objectionable and offended Hindus' religious sentiments.
However, the court headed by justice Jitendra Chauhan, without commenting on the case, adjourned the matter to be heard on December 3.
The FIR was registered at the Division 3 police station, Jalandhar, on the complaint of Lalit Kumar on September 26 under Section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code. The petitioners have also sought stay of the trial court proceedings during the pendency of the petition in the high court.
