‘Politics over career'

A few days ago, celebrity hair stylist Sapna Bhavnani termed Navjot Singh Sidhu as one of her life-support systems in the Bigg Boss house. For now-divorced couple Rajeev Paul and Delnaz, he is somewhat of a love guru, whose only aim is to unite the two. As a matter of fact, almost every contestant in the house has a special love and respect for him.

Now, what happens when they get to know that the support pillar of the house, the pragmatic Navjot Singh Sidhu is leaving the house on Friday?

For us too it came much like a bolt from blue, when his wife, Navjot Kaur, announced this at the Chandigarh Press Club, Sector 27, on Thursday: “Gadkari ji called me and said he is needed for Gujarat elections. His fame and love will help the party during campaigning. So, I spoke to Endemol and they asked me to hold a press conference. When Navjot gets to know that I have sent a message asking him to quit, I’m sure he won’t doubt it for a second.”

When Bigg Boss season 6 began last month, rumours were rife that Sidhu plan to be a part of the house only for a fixed number of days. His wife, in disagreement, says, “Since he’s a little quarrelsome, everyone must have though that he’s pick a fight with someone soon enough and leave.”

And ask her if the show is scripted; she says, “It’s not scripted; him quitting the show is a requirement. He was doing rather well there. I too was expecting him to win. Had he won the show, I would have been really happy.”

So, knowing fully well that a contestant’s image gets easily tarnished in a show like Bigg Boss, why did Sidhu join?

“Our kids were apprehensive about him joining; for him too, party was the priority. But, I wanted him to show his best to people. Usually, sardars are perceived as drunkard. Sidhu ji, however, is different. He’s a teetotaler who meditates everyday. Also, there are only a
handful of men who respect women—he is one of them,” shares she.

Won’t these women be affected with his decision to quit?

“I’m quite worried about them. Sapna will be the most affected. Urvashi, Delnaz, Sampat or Sapna might also retaliate and try to get out of the house. He is an emotional support for many contestants. But then again, television is career, politics is a mission.”
