Prayer held in the memory of Beas tragedy victims

Sadak, Privahan and Jan Sangharsh Samiti, Kullu, performed a religious ritual, Sarav Dharam Karam Puja, at Thalout in Mandi district on Friday to pray for the peace for souls of 24 students of a Hyderabad college and a tour operator, who lost their lives in Beas river on June 8. They were swept away while they were taking pictures on the banks of the river when water from Larji hydel project was released.


The Samiti members invited priests of different religions, including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism, to perform rituals for the peace of departed souls.

Hindu priest Vaid Byas, Sikh priest Gurucharan Singh, Christian priest Amit Jhonson, Islam priest Mohammad Yusuf Khan and Buddhist priest Lama Tashi performed a Sarv Dharam Karam Puja near the accident site at Thalout till afternoon.

Samiti chairman Satya Parkash Thakur said, “We have performed this religious ritual for the peace of the soul of 25 victims of the Thalout tragedy and pray to god that in future this kind tragedy never occurs in the state, which shook the entire nation.”
