Prez to visit Shimla for summer jaunt

President Pranab Mukherjee will be visiting the state capital from June 20 to June 30 on a summer jaunt.

Senior officials of the state government confirmed that President’s office had sentalist of programmes of his (Mukherjee’s) visit to the state.

“It will be a private visit and he will stay at ‘Rashtrapati Niwas’, the retreat near Chharabra” he added.

Mukherjee had earlier visited Shimla on May 23, 2013, to attend golden jubilee programme of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha.

In wake of his visit, public works department has started face-lifting of the retreat.

During his earlier visit, the president had directed the officials concerned to carry out some repair work in the building the department was working to ensure that, said a PWD official.

The retreat building is the official summer residence of the President. The building housing the retreat is a wooden structure constructed in 1850.
