Market in Kurali is stinking with unfulfilled promises of politicians. Since past three years, sewerage lines dug open, prompting the shopkeepers to give poll boycott call. “We will not even allow a politician to enter the market,”they said.

The members of local Market Welfare Associations have even put black flags on atop their shops in protest. Three years back, Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) laid the sewerage pipes on nagar council road and vegetable market, but till date, the area has not been levelled. On Monday, the members also raised slogans against the authorities.

President of Market Welfare Association, Kurali, Gopal Chand said, “It is very unfortunate that the area dug open in market has not been filled and levelled even after three years. We are boycotting the Lok Sabha elections as politicians failed to fulfill our promises. We will not even allow them to enter the market. Enough is enough,”he rued.

Association chairman Rakesh Bhatla said, “Our business is suffering from past three years due to digging of ground and costumers do not even prefer to come. We know, why despite requesting the municipal council and local politicians, the work has not been done.”

Besides traders, the residents of ward no 2 have also decided to boycott polls due to nonfulfillment of the promises of making concrete lanes in front of their houses.

Jagdish Kumar, a local said, “Politicians promise us for concrete lanes during every polls but do not keep it and this time, we have decided to boycott polls and will hold protest against them,”he said.
However, Sukhjit Pal Singh, administrator, MC, Kurali, said, “The work of laying sewerage pipes is over and as far as levelling work is concerned, it will be done soon.”
