PU announces incentives for outstanding sportspersons

The Panjab University administration announced special incentives for outstanding sportspersons studying at the varsity on Wednesday.

A sportsperson securing any of the first three positions or representing the country at the Olympic Games, world cups, world championships, Commonwealth Games, international athletic permit meets or Asian Games will now be eligible for free education, free hostel accomodation and free swimming pool and gymnasium facilities.

The students will also be exempted from tuition fees and all other charges except examination fees. Special seats would be reserved for them in campus hostels and they would be charged only for food, a PU spokesperson said.

Students getting any of the first three positions or representing India in the Asian cups, Asian championships, SAG games, Davis Cup, Grand Slam in tennis, Thomas Cup, Uber Cup, all England badminton tournament, official test match or one-day international cricket matches would be eligible for free education, free hostel and free swimming pool and gymnasium facility. They will also be exempted from tuition fees.

Students getting any of the first three epositions in the national games, senior nationals or all India inter university level championships would also be eligible for the same benefits.

“Certain conditions are also applicable to motivate PU sportspersons to improve their sports performance. The incentive scheme is for the outstanding campus sportspersons who win laurels for the varsity by their outstanding performance. They are also required to play for the university in intervarsity competitions in the games for which the special incentives are claimed,” the spokesperson added.
