Punjab governor administers oath of office to new PPSC head

Punjab governor Shivraj VPatil on Tuesday administered the oath of office, secrecy and allegiance to Constitution to the newly appointed chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) Lt Gen Tejwant Singh Gill (Retd) at at Raj Bhavan here.
 
Earlier, Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal sought the permission of the governor to start the oath taking ceremony, an official spokesman said.
 
Soon after being sworn in, Lt Gen Gill (Retd) signed the oath, which was counter-signed by the governor.
 
Meanwhile, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal also graced the occasion.
 
Members of Punjab Cabinet and PPSC besides senior officers of civil and police administration were also present on the occasion.
 
The family members, friends and well-wishers of Lt Gen Gill (Retd) also attended the swearing-in-ceremony.

Punjab: ABP Sanjha ceases operations

Failure to get access to cable TV carriage by the leading operator in Punjab has claimed another new channel as victim. Punjabi news channel ABP Sanjha announced to cease operations on Wednesday evening, affecting 200 employees. Management of the channel, a part of the Anandabazar Patrika group that runs leading channels including ABP News in Hindi, cited the virtual blackout as the primary reason for the shutdown.
