Panjab University Student Union (PUSU) held a protest outside the vice-chancellor's office at Panjab University (PU) on Tuesday.

The protesters demanded that students of University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) be allowed 'branch sliding' facility like other institutes in the country.

The students claimed that in most neighbouring institutes such as PEC University of Technology, Punjab Technical University (PTU) students were allowed to opt for other courses after completion of one year in a course if there were vacant seats in the desired course. But PU did not allow such facility to PU students.

"We had submitted memorandum several times to the PU authorities, but they are not paying heed to our demand. Branch sliding should be adopted on the pattern of other institutes,"said Satwant Singh, acting president, PUSU.

PU assured the students that their demand would be looked into.
