Punjab deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said the Congress decision to push unwilling seniors into a losing battle was part of a larger Rahul Gandhi plan to finish off the old guard.

In a statement, Sukhbir called it ‘Formula Rahul-2019’ and likened it to the ‘Kamraj plan’ adopted by Jawaharlal Nehru in the 1960s to reign in the old guard. All big names in the Congress then were made to resign from party posts and government to allow Nehru to re-constitute these according to his wishes.

Sukhbir said Rahul could see that there was no chance of the Congress forming a government after these elections: “He is clearly preparing and planning for a post-defeat scenario.”
