Scattered rainfall occurred in parts of Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday, bringing down the maximum temperature by up to two degrees Celsius in the region.
The union territory of Chandigarh was drenched by 30mm rainfall, and recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5°, the Met office said.
Ambala in Haryana received the most rainfall at 51mm, while, in Punjab, Amritsar had 23mm and Patiala just 0.3mm.
However, Hisar in Haryana recorded a high of 36.5°, a notch above normal, the hottest place in the region. Bhiwani’s maximum settled at 35°, and Ambala registered a high of 34.1°.
In Punjab, Amritsar and Patiala recorded identical maximums at 35.5°, also a notch above normal, while Ludhiana registered 35°.
The rainfall eased the power situation to some extent in the region, officials said, adding that some low-lying areas were inundated.
The forecast is of cloudy sky with possibility of thundershowers at a few places in the region during the next 24 hours.
