Almost seven months after a Khuda Lahora teenager alleged that she was raped by five Chandigarh police constables, her 23-year-old cousin accused three police personnel of sexually harassing him on Sunday night.

The victim in the Khuda Lahora rape case had turned hostile in the court, while the trial is still on.

Victim’s cousin Vinod Kumar, who stays in Sector 46, claimed that he was sexually assaulted and thrashed by policemen, who also threatened to implicate him in a false case.

Vinod gave a written complaint addressed to UT senior superintendant of police (SSP) Sukchain Singh Gill stating that he was sexually harassed at the Sector 34 police station. The 23-year-old man said he was riding back home on his scooter from Khuda Lahora when he was signalled by two boys asking for a lift. He dropped one of them in Sector 44, and the other one in Sector 45, he said, adding that when he stopped in Sector 45, cops intercepted and asked him about his credentials. One of the cops recognised him as the cousin of the Khuda Lahora rape case victim, after which they started abusing and thrashing him, Vinod reported.

He further alleged that police personnel took him to a forest area where they removed his clothes and made attempts to sexually harass him. When he objected, they allegedly took him to the Sector 34 police station and said he was brought there for triple-riding and not carrying a valid driving license.

Vinod further alleged that a woman cop present at the police station spit in his face before thrashing him. He was reportedly let off late at night.

Vinod also stated that the district court had ordered the SSP to provide police security for him as he had moved an application for the same in court in April. He had demanded security as he was receiving threat calls from relatives of his cousin who was allegedly raped by cops.

Meanwhile, SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said, “We are yet to receive the complaint and will verify its contents.”

The SHO of Sector 34 police station, Rajesh Shukla, said Vinod, along with two others, was triple-riding in Sector 45 late at night. “They were stopped and the cops asked them for papers of the two-wheeler, which they could not produce. They were not even wearing helmets and, therefore, were challaned, and the scooter was impounded. Vinod’s complaint is baseless and there is no truth in his allegations,” he added. The victim did not name any cop in his complaint.
