Rattu receives Shiromani award

Noted Hindi author and media expert Krishan Kumar Rattu was on Sunday awarded with the Shiromani Litterateur Award 2011 by the language department, Punjab. Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and education minister Sikander Singh Maluka presented a citation, shawl and a cash award of Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rattu at a ceremony held at Punjab Bhavan here.

Rattu has received several national and international awards. More than five dozen of his books in English, Hindi and Punjabi are part of the curriculum of several universities.

Talking to the media after receiving the award, Rattu said honouring the Hindi language was akin to honouring the country's soul.

He is currently working as a programme director at Doordarshan Kendra, Chandigarh.
