Mohit Gupta, the Punjab unit president of the BJP's youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, on Saturday welcomed the decision of the local bodies department to exempt change-of-land-use (CLU) charges for hotels and hospitals.
Gupta advised the BJP's majority-holding coalition partner, the Shiromani Akali Dal, not to indulge in a war of words as the exemption would provide respite to the people and would also help in bringing people associated with the sectors out of "recession". Expressing gratitude to the local bodies minister, the BJP's Anil Joshi, Gupta asked the SAD to work towards bringing in new schemes for the welfare of Punjab and "take advantage" of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
However, he added that it was the Sukhbir-Kalia committee - comprising SAD chief and deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, and BJP leader and then minister Manoranjan Kalia - had decided for giving relaxation in CLU in 2009. "And now it is Joshi who has implemented the same for which he deserves appreciation. The overall credit will in any case go to the Punjab government which is a coalition of Akalis and BJP," he said.
