A senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader of Bhaini village in Nurpur Bedi area of Rupnagar district has allegedly sold three kanal land of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib at Anandpur Sahib after forging the documents.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Monday submitted a complaint to Rupnagar SSP Varinder Pal Singh through Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib manager Sukhwinder Singh. The SSP has asked the Rupnagar superintendent of police (detective) to conduct an inquiry.

Sources said the land which was allegedly sold fraudulently to a religious leader of Pehowa for Rs. 3 crore is worth over Rs. 5 crore. The SGPC came to know of the sale of the property only when the construction was started on the land last week. SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said the land was owned by the SGPC; as such, it could not be sold by anyone, adding that the Sikh body had started legal proceedings.
