SAD names office-bearers; Majithia is general secy

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday announced the party's organisational structure, retaining its old guard by including veterans Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Gurdev Singh Badal, Tota Singh, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Balwant Singh Ramoowalia and Dr Upinderjit Kaur as senior vice-presidents.


Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa has been retained as SAD secretary general and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema as secretary as well as the party spokesman.

Releasing the list of office-bearers of the party wings, Sukhbir said Majithia, former president of the Youth Akali Dal, would be the SAD general secretary.

Apart from Majithia, the party's general secretaries are Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Prem Singh Chandumajra, Nirmal Singh Kahlon, Naresh Gujral, Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Avtar Brar, Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Dr Rattan Singh Ajnala, Sarwan Singh Phillaur and Hira Singh Gabria.

Besides Cheema, the other party spokespersons include Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Prem Singh Chandumajra, while Naresh Gujral and Manjit Singh GK would be the party spokespersons in Delhi. NK Sharma would continue as the treasurer.

Bibi Jagir Kaur would be the president of the party's women's wing, whereas Gulzar Singh Ranike, Hira Singh Gabria and Surinder Singh Pehalwan would continue as presidents of its SC (Scheduled Castes) wing, BC (Backward Classes) wing and employees' wing, respectively.

Sarup Chand Singla would be the president of the traders' wing, and Charan Singh Lohara of the transport wing.

The party vice-presidents include Sant Jagjit Singh Lopo, Paramjit Kaur Gulshan, Hari Singh Zira, Gobind Singh Longowal, Chaudhary Nand Lal, Parkash Chand Garg, Rajinder Singh Kanjhla, Onkar Singh Thapar, Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Amrik Singh Aliwal, Bhagwan Dass Juneja, Avtar Singh Hitt, Izhar Alam, Munnawar Masih, Varinder Singh Bajwa, Bhai Ram Singh, Hans Raj Hans, Sher Singh Ghubaya, Mahesh Inder Singh Nihal Singh Wala, Amrik Singh Varpal and Ramandeep Singh Bharowal.

The party's organising secretaries include Sarbjit Singh Makkar, Dr Harjinder Singh Jakhu, Amrik Singh Mohali, Naresh Kataria, Baljit Singh Kumbhra, Dr Tejinderpal Singh, Karan Ghuman (Canada) and Nidharak Singh Brar. Paramjit Singh Sidhwan and Charanjit Singh Brar are the SAD office secretaries.

Meanwhile, the Youth Akali Dal would soon have four presidents, one each from Doaba and Majha regions and two from Malwa, the party release said.

Zila jathedars

The zila jathedars (district presidents) are Upkar Singh Sandhu (Amritsar-urban), Veer Singh Lopoke (Amritsar-rural), Sikander Singh Maluka (Bathinda-rural), Paramjit Singh Khalsa (Barnala-rural), Mantar Singh Brar (Faridkot-rural), Ashok Aneja (Fazlika-urban), Avtar Singh Minna (Ferozepur-rural), Navneet Khurana (Ferozepur-urban), Sucha Singh Langah (Gurdaspur-rural), Shubash Ohri (Gurdaspur-urban), Surinder Singh Thekedar (Hoshiarpur-rural), Gurcharan Singh Channi (Jalandhar-urban), Ajit Singh Kohar (Jalandhar-rural), Jarnail Singh Wahid (Kapurthala-rural), Santa Singh Umaidpur (Ludhiana-rural), Madan Lal Bagga (Ludhiana urban-1, North, West, Central), Harbhajan Singh Dang (Ludhiana urban-2, East, South, Atam Nagar), Prem Kumar Kabaria (Mansa-urban), Gurmail Singh (Mansa-rural), Teerath Singh Mahla (Moga-rural), Ujagar Singh Badali (Mohali-rural), Dayal Singh Kolianwali (Muktsar-rural), Ram Singh Dudhala (Nawanshahr-rural), Deep Inder Singh Dhillon (Patiala-rural), Paramjit Singh Makkar (Ropar-urban), Mohan Singh Dhahey (Ropar-rural), Teja Singh Kamalpur (Sangrur-rural) and Alwinderpal Singh Pakhoke (Tarn Taran-rural).

Khuda Lahora rape case: Accused seek acquittal

During the resumed hearing of the Khuda Lahora rape case in which five UT cops are facing charges of rape and molestation, the accused sought acquittal submitting that no case had been made out as the victim herself had turned hostile and even the medical evidence was in their favour.
