Talking to mediapersons at Gurdwara Bhatta Sahib here, Makkar said Sarna had mismanaged the DSGMC and resorted to hooliganism in gurdwaras of Delhi. Makkar said the people of Delhi were educated and wise and would teach Sarna a lesson in the elections.

The SGPC president said a serai having a capacity to accommodate 2,000 people would be constructed at Amritsar for devotees visiting Harmandar Sahib, adding that the serai would be built after demolishing Bhai Gurdas Hall.

He also announced that special emphasis would be laid on the development of historical gurdwaras of Chamkaur Sahib.

Earlier, addressing a religious gathering on the occasion of Shaheedi Jor Mela at Gurdwara Bhatta Sahib, Makkar recalled the sacrifices of Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh and stressed the need for concerted efforts for saving Sikhism from various ills.

He also inaugurated the newly-laid interlocking-tile floor in the gurdwara.

Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib jathedar Tarlochan Singh, Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra, former minister Satwant Kaur Sandhu, SGPC members Amarjit Singh Chawla and Paramjit Singh Lakhewal, former MLA Ujagar Singh Badali, SGPC executive committee member Karnail Singh Panjoli, and district Youth Akali Dal (rural) president Harpreet Singh Basant also spoke on the occasion.

Meanwhile, thousands of devotees thronged the gurdwara on the second day of the mela. Gatka competitions were also organised.

Rupnagar MLA Dr Daljit Singh Cheema was the chief guest on the occasion.
