Taking note of the incident in Tarn Taran wherein a Dalit girl was allegedly forced into a sexual favour by police personnel, the Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes has written to the senior superintendent of police asking for strong action against the cops.

In the communiqué, chairman of the commission, Rajesh Bagha, has said it is unfortunate that “custodians of law and order are violating the law and indulging in such kind of heinous crimes”. The panel has sought a compliance report within a week.

Bagha said that even after the girl approached the SHO, he blatantly refused to lodge a complaint and pressured her to keep mum.
