Residents of Sector 40-B are at receiving end as internal roads are crying for attention from the past two years. Residents say despite repeated requests to area councillor Gurbax Rawat nothing had been done so far.

Area resident Dr AK Nanda said, “It is very unfortunate that the Chandigarh MC has neglected Sector 40-B for the past two years. Despite repeated requests to former and present area councillors, nothing has been done so far. Moreover, whenever we call area councillor Gurbax Rawat only her husband responds and nothing concrete comes out of it.”

Another resident advocate RS Bajaj said, “Around 15 years ago, the maintenance and repair work of roads of Sector 40-B was done after the direction of the Punjab and Haryana high court. We fail to understand that why the civic body wants that for everything a common man should approach the high court.”

However, when contacted, Gurbax Rawat said as far as roads of Sector 40-B were concerned, in the past two years, tenders were floated for 28 times, but contractors were not coming forward due to the low rate of MC. Since the civic body has increased the rate now, we are hoping that work would be allotted soon, she said.

Even the action-taken report of the finance and contract committee has shown that despite work on re-carpeting and widening of V-6 roads (internal roads of sectors) in southern parts of city being approved with an estimate of Rs. 2.25 crore nearly 20 months ago, the work has been not completed.

As per the action-taken report of last year, the F and CC approved the estimate for re-carpeting of V-6 road in Sectors 38-C and D, 35, 21-C and D, 40-B and 56.

Apart from this, nearly 300 V-6 roads in southern part of city are crying for attention from the past three years as the municipal corporation of Chandigarh has yet to prepare the estimate of the said roads. In Chandigarh, there are around 1,000 V-6 roads (covering nearly 500 km) and re-carpeting of nearly 300 roads (180 km) has not been done. Potholes are witnessed on most of them.
