Section 144 imposed at V-C's office

The UT administration imposed section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in and around a 250 metre radius of Panjab University vice-chancellor's office due to the ongoing protest by students of the university, here on Monday.


The orders have been enforced from 8 am on September 9, and will remain in effect till September 12, and were passed by UT deputy commissioner Mohammed Shayin keeping in view that the ongoing agitation could cause obstruction, annoyance or injury to persons lawfully employed, disturb public peace and tranquility and cause riots.

The order will not apply to the police, para-military or military forces or any other government servant on official duties, the processions or meetings for which prior permission in writing of the district magistrate or sub divisional magistrate, Chandigarh, is obtained.
