The panel would prepare a detailed report to be submitted to the Akal Takht jathedar, who would then issue an edict to punish the culprits once they are caught, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar told HT here.

Panel members Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, Rajinder Singh Mehta and Nirmail Singh Jaula also met two persons who were with Pannu during the attack in Uttarakhand   Punjab Cooperative Bank managing director Kamaljit Singh Sangha and schoolteacher Amarjit Singh, who works in the office of the director general, school education, Punjab.

"While the state administration and the police are handling their job under the law, we (SGPC) are concerned over the incident as the culprits were Sikhs who did not care about their religious tenets," Makkar said.

The Sikh assailants had kept thrashing the officer even after his turban was toppled in the melee.
