City’s master athletes, Captain Gurjiwan Singh Sidhu (retd) and his younger brother Pargat Singh, put up a fine show at the recently organised 5th Masters Athletic Championship held in Alwar, Rajasthan.

The two brothers claimed three gold medals each in shot put, discus throw and hammer throw events of the 80+ and 70+ age categories.

However, this is not the first time that the brothers have grabbed the top honours at a national level championship.

At the 35th National Masters Athletic Championship held last year in Coimbatore, Gurjiwan won three gold medals in shot put, discus throw and hammer throw.

Pargat Singh also did the city proud by wining bronze medal in shot put.

On the basis of their performance, the two were selected for the Asia Masters Athletics meet, which is scheduled to be held in Japan from September 19 to 23 this year.
