Wednesday night, 9.30 pm on the clock, a table is reserved with the aroma of anticipation hanging heavy in the air — the scene at Deluxe Dhaba, Sector 28, where choreographer, dancer, actor and director Prabhu Deva and actress Jacqueline Fernandez were scheduled to visit for their rich Punjabi dinner.
According to sources, Prabhu Deva is in town to shoot the item song for his upcoming directorial venture, Ramaiya Vasta Vaiya—the remake of Prabhu Deva’s directorial debut, Telugu film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana.
Now, dig this — despite the dhaba being jam-packed, the celeb duo was not approached by anyone for an entire hour as they progressed through tandoori starters and the main course.
Someone then stumbles upon Jacky’s face, and then begins the domino affect.
After a sinful kulfi-gulabjamun round, Jackie decides to step out, albeit in the mood to ignore the media. Don’t worry Jackie, we have much more to talk about other than Sajid Khan.
In stark contrast was the ever-so humble Prabhu Deva, whose reply to every question began with his patent smile.
Starting off on a controversial note, we ask him about Gangnam Style South Korean singer, Psy, being in talks with UTV Motion Pictures about buying the rights for the remake of ABCD: Anybody Can Dance. “It’s the company’s decision. Nothing has been disclosed yet, but the final decision is the company’s,” he shares.
About Ramaiya Vasta Vaiya, which launches newcomer Girish Taurani (son of Tips’ owner Kumar Taurani) opposite Shruti Hasan, he says, “It’s a feel-good love story being produced by Tips and is expected to hit theatres by June 2013.”
The item song for the movie, featuring Jacqueline Fernandez and Prabhu Deva, is being shot at Kiri Afgana village, Chamkaur Sahib, Punjab. When asked what brought him to Punjab, he says, “The lush green, sunshine yellow mustard fields. I finalised on the place when I came here after I did a recce.”
Throwing light on his upcoming projects, he says, “Besides this movie, I’m also making a movie with Shahid Kapoor, called Rambo Rajkumar. It’s an action flick with heavy doses of dance.”
Though ABCD bombed at the box office, Deva has this to say, “The credit for ABCD goes to Remo. No one else could have directed it better than him.”
