The Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday granted two months to the Punjab government to finalise recruitment rules for employees of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC), failing which the principal secretary of the department of home affairs would have to remain present on the next date of hearing (October 10).

The directions came from the bench comprising chief justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and justice Ajay Tewari while hearing a public interest litigation filed by advocate Dinesh Chadha. The PSHRC was allegedly recruiting employees through non-transparent methods, the petitioner had alleged. The court showed disapproval of the government’s conduct of not finalising the rules despite taking opportunities.
