Stray dog terror: Nine bitten in Sec 22

Stray dogs have bitten 27 people in two days in this city where 8,000 canines remain on the loose.

Outside Shastri Market in Sector 22 on Wednesday, a couple of stray dogs bit nine shoppers. On Tuesday, 18 cases were reported from the residential area of Sector 20-A. The victims also complained that subsidised anti-rabies vaccine is unavailable at the Sector 19 dispensary, city’s only centre for this treatment.

THE Rs. 14,000 SHOT

Shopkeeper Kamal was attacked in Sector 22 a s he entered the parking lot. “With my injured leg, I reported at the Sector 19 dispensary, where I was forced to shell out Rs. 14,000 for the treatment that the authorities claim is available for only Rs. 100.”

In Sector 20-A, morning walkers lived the nightmare. KL Jham (68) was bitten on Tuesday. “It is unfortunate that even after so many cases reported every day, the municipal corporation has failed to find a solution,” he said. Area councillor Rajesh Gupta, who visited the spot, said: “I will raise the issue in the House. It seems the MC officials are not taking their job seriously.”

“Nearly 30 dog bites have been reported in the past two days, most from Sectors 22 and 20,” Dr Poornima Saigal, medical officer at the Sector 19 dispensary, confirmed.
