Pratyush, a student of Government College, Sector 11 who did not want to disclose the party he supported said, “The basic reason for selecting women candidates is because of the sympathy factor. These girls stand against male candidates, and since most of the voters are girls, they get elected for the student body. From what I know, they have never been doing anything. The trend to nominate a woman candidate for sympathy votes has been on a rise.”

In each of the four PU affiliated colleges, girls have been nominated for posts of general or joint secretary, while the more important positions are being secured by the boys of various parties.

A female candidate who is contesting for a post in the elections, on the condition of anonymity said, “It's true that some of the girl candidates are dummy candidates who are nominated only to secure posts. I have been given a post this year, but I don't know what my job exactly is.”
