Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa on Thursday rejected the clean chit given by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal to his brother-in-law and revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia in the multi-crore drug smuggling racket in the state. Bajwa said Sukhbir himself could not be the investigator, prosecutor and the judge combined into one.
In a statement, Bajwa said Sukhbir had acquitted Majithia of all allegations, saying that it was media hype, while the fact of the matter was that his (Majithia’s) name had been linked to the racket by copturned-smuggler Jagdish Bhola, presently under detention, after which the latter was barred from talking to the media while being produced in the court.
The PPCC chief said it was strange that tourism minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur had to submit his resignation as the name of his son Damanvir Singh cropped up in the case, although nothing had been established so far against him (Damanvir) as the investigation was still going on.
Bajwa said no investigation had been done by any agency against Majithia and this was the reason why he had been demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the racket.
