Sukhbir marks inquiry; suspends DSP, dismisses SHO

The Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday asked director general of police (DGP) Sumedh Singh to take immediate and strictest possible action against guilty police officers, who had delayed investigation and action against the gangrape of a girl in Badshahpur area of Patiala district.

Sukhbir who is also holding the home portfolio, said that he would not tolerate any insensitivity and dereliction of duty especially in the cases of crime against women. He asked Patiala zone IG Parmjit Singh Gill to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and submit a report within one week.

On the basis of the preliminary enquiry Badal asked director general of police (DGP) to suspend Patran deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Harpreet Singh, dismiss station house officer (SHO) Gagga Gurcharan Singh and transfer assistant sub-inspectro(ASI) Nasib Singh to police lines with immediate effect.

Meanwhile all the three accused in the concerned case have already been arrested by Punjab police.
