Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday directed the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to ensure eight-hour continuous power supply to the agriculture sector besides 24-hour supply to the industrial and domestic sectors from Tuesday.
Presiding over a meeting of senior officials of the PSPCL, including chairman cum managing director KD Chaudhari, power secretary Anirudh Tewari and chief engineers of all zones in the state, the deputy chief minister said he wanted the power department to work towards realising the goal of ensuring assured and continuous eight-hour power supply to the agriculture sector during the paddy season. He said there should also not be any cut on the industry and domestic sectors.
Meanwhile, briefing the deputy CM on the plan for the paddy season, Chaudhari said farmers would receive eight-hour power supply for four days during the day and for the same number of days during the night alternately. In another major decision, Sukhbir directed the PSPCL to establish a helpline service by July 15 on the same pattern of the successful 181 helpline being run by the Punjab police.
