Sukhbir sets week’s deadline for police to resolve public complaints

Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday directed senior police officers to ensure speedy settlement of grievances being highlighted during his sangat darshan programmes and said the pendency should not be of more than a week.

The deputy CM, who on Wednesday held the sangat darshan here, asked his principal secretary PS Aujla to look into the pendency of such complaints and submit the status report at the next week’s sangat darshan, according to a press release.

To resolve grievances of Punjabis living in and around New Delhi, Sukhbir announced that similar sangat darshan would be held at Punjab Bhawan in Delhi every Saturday.

Regarding the alleged harassment of Krispy Khaira, who has accused two senior police officers of wrongdoing, the deputy CM directed the DGP (vigilance) to inquire into the matter and submit the inquiry report by Friday. It was alleged by the applicants during the sangat darshan that IPS officers made hefty transactions in connivance with her husband Devinder Gill, a property dealer, who was recently arrested.

Jobs promised to sportspersons

The deputy CM assured sportspersons of giving them government jobs and reiterated that the state government would provide jobs to medal winners who have exhibited extraordinary talent in various national and international sports events.

On transfers in various departments, he said the last date fixed for the purpose had lapsed and no transfer would be made during this session. He said the government was in the process of completing conscription in all departments and soon unemployed youths would be recruited in various departments.

During the sangat darshan, people from across the state met the deputy CM. Grievances of most of the people revolved around police, revenue, transfers and civil cases.

Also present on the occasion were Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, education minister; PS Aujla, principal secretary to deputy CM; BK Garg, IG (law and order); and Ajay Mahajan, Manvesh Singh Sidhu, Rahul Tiwari and Ashwani Kumar Sharma (all special principal secretaries to deputy CM).
