Temperatures in Punjab and Haryana soared above the normal levels today, with the mercury settling around the 40 degree Celsius mark in most parts of the states.
Chandigarh recorded the maximum at 39 deg C, two notches above the normal level, according to a Meteorological department report.
Among other places in Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 40.4 deg C, up by three notches and Ludhiana and Patiala recorded respective maximums of 38.7 deg C and 39.7 deg C.
Hisar in Haryana recorded 41.4 deg C, up by two notches,while Ambala recorded a high of 39.1 deg C, up by two degrees.
The respective maximum temperatures at Bhiwani and Narnaul settled at 38.8 deg C and 37.5 deg C.
