Over the years, there have been several female actors who have made their Bollywood debut opposite actor Salman Khan. Right from Bhagyashree in Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) to the latest newbie in town Daisy Shah, who will make her debut in the 48-year-old’s upcoming release Jai Ho!, Salman has worked with many newcomers over the years. But interestingly, most of them failed to make it big as Bollywood leading ladies, with only a handful of exceptions including actors Raveena Tandon and Sonakshi Sinha, who managed to taste success.    As all eyes are now on Daisy, with Jai Ho! releasing tomorrow, here’s  a look at all the heroines who debuted opposite Salman over the years, and how they fared in the Hindi film industry.

Chandni made her acting debut opposite Salman in Sanam Bewafa, that released in 1991. Although the film was a hit, Chandni, who later worked in films such as Jai Kishen and 1942: A Love Story, among others, could never make it big in Bollywood.

Nagma

Nagma forayed into Bollywood with a successful debut opposite Salman in Baaghi (1990). And, despite doing films with Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan later, she couldn’t make a mark in Bollywood. Eventually she shifted focus to the south Indian and Bhojpuri film industry.

Bhagyashree

She was only 20 when she made her debut opposite Salman in the 1989 hit, Maine Pyar Kiya. Soon after she got married to boyfriend Himalaya Dassani, and insisted that she would act only with him. All her movies post marriage sank without a trace. After a 10-year lull, she returned to films, but didn’t taste success.

Revathy

Revathy had a successful career down south before she made her Bollywood debut opposite Salman in the 1991 flick, Love. Though she later acted in films such as Raat and Muskurahat, among others, she never quite made it big. She later took to direction and made hit films such as Mitr, My Friend and Phir Milenge, among others.

Bhoomika Chawla

Bhoomika made her Bollywood debut opposite Sallu in the hit film, Tere Naam (2003). She worked with him again in Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha (2004), and acted in a few other Hindi films but couldn’t find much success. She is married to yoga guru Bharat Thakur and currently works in south Indian films.

Sneha Ullal

Sneha made news for her striking resemblance to Salman’s ex-flame, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, when she debuted opposite him in Lucky: No Time For Love (2005). Not only did she get negative reviews for her acting skills, the movie also tanked at the box office. She then appeared with Sallu’s brother Sohail in Aryan, that too flopped. Sneha has since then moved on to acting in south Indian films.

Zareen Khan

Zareen, who started out as actor Katrina Kaif’s body double, got her dream debut opposite Salman in the film Veer (2010). After Veer tanked, Zareen was seen in the item song, Character Dheela, in Ready and was later seen in the multi-starrer Housefull 2. The film, though a success, didn’t help her career much. She is now gearing up for her first Punj-abi film, Jatt James Bond.

Raveena Tandon

Having made her debut in Patthar Ke Phool opposite Salman (1991), Raveena went on to become one of the most popular actors in the 90’s. Raveena and Salman were later seen in films including Andaz Apna Apna and Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye. With many successful movies and a National Award in her kitty, Raveena shifted her focus to marriage and motherhood, but will be seen in Bombay Velvet soon.

Sonakshi Sinha

Salman gave Sonakshi, daughter of actor Shatrughan Sinha, her dream debut in the film Dabangg (2010), which went on to become a huge success. With a string of hits behind her, the actor is definitely among the most sought-after girls in Bollywood right now. After Dabangg, Sonakshi was paired opposite Salman once again in Dabangg 2 (2012).

Daisy Shah
