Relying on evidence gathered through in-depth scientific investigations, a local court on Wednesday sentenced three accused to life imprisonment in the rape and murder of a teenaged girl.

Additional district and sessions judge (court handling cases of crime against women) Poonam Suneja held Ranjodh Singh alias Jodha, Gurvinder Singh alias Ginder and Virender Singh alias Vicky, guilty of rape and murder of the 15-yearold, who was kidnapped from Sector 3, Kurukshetra on May 4, 2011.

A student of Class 12, the victim was abducted in a SUV from near Jindal Chowk and her body was found near Rambha village in Karnal district a day after.

Since there was no eyewitness in the case, forensic science evidence played a crucial role in proving the crime in the case.

A special investigation team was formed, which, with the help of cyber experts, cracked the sensational case.

The deputy district attorney (DDA) SK Mittal, said that the convicts were awarded life sentences for gangrape (376-G of the IPC) as well as murder.
