Tribunal indicts Capt, Punjab DGP for land grab

The three-member tribunal headed by justice Kuldip Singh (retd) in its report submitted to the Punjab and Haryana high court has pointed towards a big "land grab scam" being operated in the periphery of Chandigarh where thousand of acres of village land has been grabbed or is in the process of being grabbed.


The tribunal informed the court that it had come across several cases in which the government authorities have ignored the "patent fraud" in usurping of government, village panchayat land under their nose and also directors/additional directors of consolidation had "colluded with the revenue officers" and passed illegal orders, which "smack of fraud, collusion and conspiracy".

The three member tribunal including retired Haryana district judge Baru Nath Gupta and advocate PN Aggarwal was constituted by the high court on May 29, 2012, for looking into illegal ownership of government land by private parties including the politicians, bureaucrats, police and revenue officials in the entire state of Punjab.

Out of a total of 336 villages of Punjab, the tribunal has submitted the interim report of the eight villages within the periphery of Chandigarh. These include Karoran (Naya Gaon), Kansal, Bartana, Mirzapur, Chhoti-Bari Nagal, Majrian, Mullanpur Garib Dass and Pallanpur villages of SAS Nagar district.

MC defers discussion on policy for car bazaar

The municipal corporation has deferred a discussion on the framing of policy for the sale and purchase of second-hand cars in biggest car bazaar of the region in Sector 7 of the city. The members of the Finance and Contract Committee will now hold another meeting on the issue on October 27.
