Two home guard volunteers assaulted, two cops hit by bus

Two home guard volunteers were beaten up whereas two policemen were injured in a road accident.


Volunteer head constable Sukhbir Singh, posted at Sector 36 police station, alleged that the driver and three occupants of a Tata Safari (CH-04-8081) assaulted him on Friday night. Sector 36 SHO Sukhbir Rana said that Sukhbir was on duty when he saw car occupants allegedly indulging in eve-teasing in Sector 36 market.

Sukhbir tried to save the girls from harassment, after which car occupants assaulted him and escaped from the spot. They also allegedly tried to ram the vehicle into him. Police later seized the vehicle belonging to a Kharar resident.

The SHO said efforts were on to track the suspects. A case has been registered and investigation are on.

In another case, volunteer Satish Kumar alleged that four persons assaulted him and tore his uniform near Transit Camp, Sector 52, where he was on duty. An injured Kumar was admitted to GMSH-16. Sector 61 police post incharge Jaspal Singh said at about 11pm on Friday, he along with volunteer Satish Kumar and a constable were patrolling in the area when four persons allegedly started pelting police with stones.

The four were allegedly in an inebriated condition. The constable and volunteer tried to catch hold of the miscreants. When the two policemen reached near Transit Camp, Sector 52, one of the suspects pelted the volunteer with stones leaving him injured. Jaspal Singh said efforts were on track down the suspects, who have been identified as Bunty, Arjun, Rahul and Mogli. A case has been registered at Sector 36 police station.

In another case, two motorcycle-borne policemen were injured after a Himachal roadways bus hit them on Saturday. Constable Surinder, who was riding a Police Control Room motorcycle, alleged that driver Rajinder Singh Katoch, a native of Palampur, rammed the bus (HP-68-3389) into his two-wheeler at Sector 46-47 and 48-49 light point.

Constable Surinder and pillion rider constable Amandeep were admitted to GMCH Sector 32. The bus driver was arrested and released on bail later. A case has been registered.

Chandigarh-Jaipur Daily Express to chug off tommorrow

On its return journey from Jaipur, train number 19717 will depart Jaipur station daily at 4.40 pm and will reach Chandigarh the following day at 4.55 pm. It will stop at same stations during the outward journey. RK Dutta, station superintendent of local station, said the train would comprise 12 coaches, including one two-tier AC coach, one three-tier AC coach and four sleeper coaches.
