Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday said the Congress-led UPA government must apologise for the brutal killing of Sikhs in the 1984 riots, in Parliament as Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had admitted the role of Congress leaders in that.

Terming it "most unfortunate", Sukhbir said the Congress had shielded its killer leaders and till now no one had been punished for killing more than 5,000 Sikhs in Delhi alone. "If the Punjab Congress leaders have the guts, they must resign on moral grounds," said Sukhbir.

Replying to a question regarding the statement by former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Sukhbir said, "The blood of Congressmen has turned white as they are justifying the heinous crime against a community."
