The second phase of the Virasat-e-Khalsa will be completed within a year. The work on the project has already been started and the first instalment worth Rs. 17 crore has been released.

Announcing this on Tuesday, Sohan Singh Thandal, minister for jails, tourism, cultural affairs and printing and stationery, said the project cost is Rs. 51 crore. He said chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had taken personal interest in the project and had approved the first instalment of Rs. 17 crore for the project.

Thandal said the state government would have celebrations of the completion of 350 years of the foundation of Anandpur Sahib. He said these celebrations would start on June 19 and would continue for a year.

He said the second phase of Virasat-e-Khalsa would be completed with the closing of the year-long celebrations in 2015.

Thandal said that under the project, 17 new galleries would be constructed, wherein the historical, religious and cultural heritage of Punjab would be depicted. The minister said the work on the construction of Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial at Anandpur Sahib had also started, which would be constructed on an area of five acres. He said the land for the memorial had already been demarcated. “As soon as the concept for this memorial is ready, the construction work of the memorial would commence,” Thandal said.
