Wheat purchase in Punjab was up by about 4 per cent at 113.27 lakh tonne in the ongoing marketing season so far compared to the same period last year.
Wheat procurement stood at 109.23 lakh tonne in corresponding period of last season, an official spokesman said.
Of 113.27 lakh tonne this season, government agencies bought 110.53 lakh tonne for central pool which is 98 per cent of total crop purchased.
Almost 2.74 lakh tonne was bought by private traders.
With farmers being paid within 48 hours of lifting, a sum of Rs. 13,565.76 crore has been paid so far to wheat growers for their produce brought at grain markets, he said.
Punjab is eyeing 115 lakh tonne of wheat purchase for central pool for current season.
Among government agencies, Markfed bought 24.87 lakh tonne, Punsup bought 23.47 LT, Pungrain purchased 18.71 LT, PSWC procured 12.79 while PAIC bought 11.07 LT of wheat.
FCI purchased 17.68 LT out of total purchase.
