The wife of a Sikh man and her workmate have been charged with murdering him in New Zealand. Gurjinder Singh, 25, and Amandeep Kaur, 31, appeared in the Auckland high court on Wednesday to face the murder charge of 35-year-old Davinder Singh, New Zealand Herald reported.

The incident occurred on August 7 outside the Manukau Event Centre, a site for public functions in Auckland.

The police said Amandeep was with Davinder on the night of the incident. Davinder was attacked when the couple had stopped on a road to buy takeaways while on their way home from work. He was assaulted with a sharp implement and died on the spot in the driver’s seat.

Davinder came to New Zealand from Rajasthan seven years ago and had been working as an upholsterer at DS Furniture in Mangere, a suburb of Auckland, the report said.

Riding in better policy

Transport is one of the fundamental requirements of business and the recent strike by diesel-run auto operators needs to be taken as a warning. Over 10,000 operators and drivers paralysed life for the relatively poorer populace of the tricity for over five days, before the administration did a volte-face and allowed 5,500 of these diesel-run autos with a specific type of engine (Bharat Stage III norms), registered from 2010 onwards, to run in Chandigarh till March 31, 2015.
