A local wine contractor M/s KD Sharma has issued a contempt notice to financial commissioner of the excise department, Punjab, for failing to comply with the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding the renewal of their L-1 wholesale licence for the sale of Indian-made foreign liquor for the year 2014-15.

In the notice, the contractor stated that they had served a legal notice to the excise department on April 4 seeking renewal of their L-1 wholesale licence.

The contractor on their petition said, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had passed an order on April 22 directing the financial commissioner of the excise department, Punjab, to take a decision on the legal notice-cum-representation in accordance with law after affording an opportunity of hearing to petitioner within seven days.

However, the department had not taken any decision on their legal notice-cum-representation so far as per the directions of the high court except holding a hearing in this regard, the contractor alleged.

The contractor demanded immediate renewal of their licence.
