An international workshop on product design has been organised at Chandigarh University in SAS Nagar in association with the University of the District of Columbia, USA.
Delivering the key note address, Devdas Shetty from the University of the District of Columbia, USA, said companies like Microsoft, Apple and Toyota ruled the field of engineering and technology through their innovative products which were technology driven and user friendly.
RS Khandpur, former director general of Pushpa Gujral Science City said facts and figures showed India was lagging behind China in the field of industrial manufacturing and production as China was investing heavily in industrialisation. He said 32 per cent of China’s GDP came from the manufacturing industry while in India, manufacturing accounted for only 15%.
Satnam Singh Sandhu, chancellor of the Chandigarh University, said over 50 experts from international and Indian universities, apart from industrial delegates, were taking part in the workshop.
