ZP elections: candidates withdraw nomination papers

As many as 17 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers, leaving 21 candidates in fray for the zila parishad elections, scheduled to be held on May 19.


Deputy commissioner-cum-election commissioner Tejinderpal Singh Sidhu confirmed the news and said 17 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers and nominations of 4 candidates have been cancelled, as their papers were not complete. “Only 21 candidates will be contesting the zila parishad elections, for ten zones, in the district'', Singh said.

As many as 55 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers from Kharar panchayat samiti elections, while, remaining 54 candidates will contest the elections in Kharar block.

Meanwhile, 19 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers from Dera Bassi block, leaving 37 candidates in fray. In Majri block, 30 candidates will be contesting for the panchayat samiti elections.
